HOOPER - Carry Your Own Saints (12" EP)

Hooper continues to fiddle with the combinations of racket and melodies, power and hooks.  For their newest EP, “Carry Your Own Saints”, they submitted themselves to the guidance of J Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) in his iconic studio, The Magpie Cage in Baltimore, Maryland. The record is a suite of biographical songs focusing on figures as wide-ranging as Polish scientist Marie Curie and American author Jack Kerouac.  Each song probes a different icon in search of mythologies worth believing in.  The songs crackle with a newfound urgency that comes with deadlines, and the band gains an added heft and precision with Mr. Robbins’ firecracker production.  It’s Hooper’s most fully realized set of songs to date.
